To make things simple, we have selected the easiest to access and often cheapest locations to reach, without compromising on the stunning views. The region selected is easily reachable from Bergen and Oslo. The best way to arrive is by the Norway In A Nutshell tour from Fjord Tours.
At the bottom of this story, you will find the how-to guide for eloping in Norway including the legal procedures.
Locations:
Stegastein Viewpoint - Open all year round and free of charge. This lookout point over the Aurlandsfjord is as good a viewpoint as you will ever see. Awesome for epic fjord-view photoshoots.
Nigardsbreen - One of the fingers of the vast Jostedalsbreen Glacier, which is the biggest glacier in Europe. The scene here is like another planet at times. Barren and wild in parts and gloriously beautiful in others. It’s a bit of a hike to reach the ice and there is a nice boat that sails the waters in summer. This is the spot for outdoor glacier elopement photos.
Aurlandsfjord at Sunset - Always beautiful here and sunsets always add that pallet of colour, perfect for epic wedding photos.
Borgund Stave Church - Built around 1180 the church is exceptionally well preserved and is the most distinctive stave church in Norway. This historic landmark is open to the public (charged) for tours. If you are lucky, they will allow you do some wedding & elopement photos inside. We once did a wedding shoot here with the King of Sweden inside with us.
Aurland Wedding - Weddings in Aurland are gorgeous, no other way of describing it. If you are eloping to Norway during summer, you can enjoy an outdoor ceremony with a handful of guests on a jetty over the fjord. In these photos, we show you a Viking themed ceremony, with the Chieftain Viking as the celebrant. It just doesn’t get better than this.
Ål - Up on top of the world, you will find this mountain plateau. It has vast stretches of open wilderness perfect for adventure hiking photoshoots and outdoor elopements.
Lærdalsfjorden - One of the lesser known fjords and certainly more secluded, this is a great spot for a traditional Norwegian wedding. You have fjord and gardens as the backdrop, with nice sunsets in summer.
Otternes Farm - The historic complex of buildings used for farming in 1800s is now free to wander around and is perfect for bridal photos. These old fjord buildings are just gorgeous with views to Flåm and Aurland.
Flåm - Probably the capital of the fjords, Flåm is the meeting place of train, boat and road. Due to it being so easy to reach, it is popular for tourism and has great infrastructure for fjord weddings. With so much nature around it is also ideal as an adventure elopement destination.
Rivers & Waterfalls - All around the fjords are watery views. Especially after the snow melt or rain, the rivers rise and there seems to be hundreds of waterfalls. Some of them are secluded and are little known such as this one. Outdoor adventure elopements look great with these backdrops.
Wedding at Skarsnuten Hotel Hemsedal at Sunset - For the sophisticated wedding, this venue has it all. With it’s own ski lift and jacuzzi, with views over the valley, weddings here are epic.
Ås - As far a views go, this is one of the best in Norway. Certainly the best easy to reach view. There are other spectacular views in Norway that require vast hikes, but this one is right on the road. Just pull up the car and enjoy this fjord wedding & elopement photography location.
Undredal - So unspoiled, we consider this a secret spot. With a population of goats greater than people, you will most likely be able to get a photo with a goat. Elopement photography with goats and this historic heritage mix rather nicely.
Aurland - Perfect for fjord summer elopements & weddings from 2 people to 100+ people. You can dream as big as you want for your wedding in Aurland. And it is gorgeous too.
Gamle Lærdalsøyri - These historic buildings provide nice backdrops to wedding photos and are perfectly peaceful, so you can get a good shot without people in the background.
Fretheim Hotel - This historic hotel wedding venue offers garden weddings & traditional wedding receptions for 100 people. You can also get married in the nearby Flåm church built in 1670.
Prest - Massive views for adventure photography await you here. There is an easy hike and an advanced hike on offer. The choice is yours.
Tour of Aurlandsfjord - There are so many perfect nature locations around this region that it might be best to take the whole day exploring the exciting viewpoints. With Fjord Photography (that’s us) you can book a Heritage Fjord Photoshoot for 5 hours which will take you to fjords, over mountaintops and through wilderness for your nature pictures.
